Prince Charles Cinema in London is having a Twin Peaks Seanson 3 Marathon later this year. Just the way it was conceived, "a feature film in 18 parts"1.
The concept of an 18-hour movie in 18 parts was not something to be understood right away. But this description felt more true than anything once one settles into the world of Twin Peaks (again), and I was also immediately reminded of Wagner's Ring.
Of course there's things alike. Over 15 hours in length, both composed across over a quarter of century. But what intrigues me the most was something else.
Every stretching and bending and ignoring and even creating completely new rules seems fairly reasonable, when it comes to putting down one's thoughts over this much time into a work of art.
